Chapter VIII - SOUND, SONG AND SINGING

Voices of terror will scream in their ears, and robbers attack when they think they are safe. -- Job 15:21.

God goes up to his throne. There are shouts of joy and the blast of trumpets, as the Lord goes up. -- Psalms 47:5.

How happy are the people who worship you with songs, who live in the light of your kindness! -- Psalms 89:15.

You like to compose songs, as David did, and play them on harps. -- Amos 6:5.

For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control. -- II Timothy 1:7.

He must hold firmly to the message which can be trusted and which agrees with the doctrine. In this way he will be able to encourage others with the true teaching and also to show the error of those who are opposed to it. -- Titus 1:9.

Use sound words that cannot be criticized, so that your enemies may be put to shame by not having anything bad to say about us. -- Titus 2:8.

I groan with sadness for Moab, with grief for Kir Heres. -- Isaiah 16:11.

Lord, look upon us from heaven, where you live in your holiness and glory. Where is your great concern for us? Where is your power? Where are your love and compassion? Do not ignore us. -- Isaiah 63:15.

Sing praise to the Lord, who rules in Zion! Tell every nation what he has done! -- Psalms 9:11.

I will sing to you, O Lord, because you have been good to me. -- Psalms 13-6.

So I will triumph over my enemies around me. With shouts of joy I will offer sacrifices in his Temple; I will sing, I will praise the Lord. -- Psalms 27:6.

Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.

For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. -- Psalms 47:6,7.

But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. -- Psalms 59:16.

Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah. -- Psalms 68:4,32.

They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards. -- Psalms 69:12.

But I will declare forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. -- Psalms 75:9.

I spend the night in deep thought; I meditate, and this is what I ask myself. -- Psalms 77:6.

Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. -- Psalms 81:1.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High. -- Psalms 92:1.

Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant. -- Psalms 135:3.

For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. -- Psalms 137:3.

I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee. -- Psalms 144:9.

They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. -- Psalms 145:7.

While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. -- Psalms 146:2.

Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. -- Psalms 147:1.

Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

Listen while I sing you this song, a song of my friend and his vineyard: My friend had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. -- Isaiah 5:1.

Sing to the Lord because of the great things he has done. Let the whole world hear the news. -- Isaiah 12:5.

But you, God's people, will be happy and sing as you do on the night of a sacred festival. You will be as happy as those who walk to the music of flutes on their way to the Temple of the Lord, the defender of Israel. -- Isaiah 30:29.

Sing a new song to the Lord; sing his praise, all the world! Praise him, you that sail the sea; praise him, all creatures of the sea! Sing, distant lands and all who live there! -- Isaiah 42:10. Break into shouts of joy, you ruins of Jerusalem! The Lord will rescue his city and comfort his people. -- Isaiah 52:9.

The Lord says to Jerusalem, "Foreigners will rebuild your walls, And their kings will serve you. In my anger I punished you, But now I will show you my favor and mercy. -- Isaiah 60:10.

My people, foreigners will serve you. They will take care of your flocks And farm your land and tend your vineyards. -- Isaiah 61:5.

They will sing for joy, but you will cry with a broken heart. -- Isaiah 65:14.

What should I do, then? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray also with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will sing also with my mind. -- I Corinthians 14:15.

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: I will sing to the Lord, because he has won a glorious victory; he has thrown the horses and their riders into the sea.

The Lord is my strong defender; he is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will sing about his greatness. -- Exodus 15:1-2.

Miriam sang for them: "Sing to the Lord, because he has won a glorious victory; he has thrown the horses and their riders into the sea. -- Exodus 15:21.

At that time the people of Israel sang this song: "Wells, produce your water; And we will greet it with a song —Numbers 21:17.

Now they come and laugh at me; I am nothing but a joke to them. -- Job 30:9.

But they don't turn to God, their Creator, who gives them hope in their darkest hours. -- Job 35:10.

Speak to one another with the words of psalms, hymns, and sacred songs; sing hymns and psalms to the Lord with praise in your hearts. -- Ephesians 5:19.

The 144,000 people stood before the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders; they were singing a new song, which only they could learn. Of the whole human race they are the only ones who have been redeemed. -- Revelation 14:3.

And singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb: Lord God Almighty, how great and wonderful are your deeds! King of the nations, how right and true are your ways. -- Revelation 15:3.

They sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to break open its seals. For you were killed, and by your sacrificial death you bought for God people from every tribe, language, nation, and race; -- Revelation 5:9.
